Privacy Policy

Overview

Notes ("we", "our", or "us") is a cloud-based note-taking application that also allows you to save images to your personal account. We are committed to protecting your personal information and being transparent about how we handle it.

This Privacy Policy applies to the Notes web application and any related services. By using Notes, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

Information We Collect

We collect only the minimum information necessary to provide our service. Specifically:

Account Information

• Email address — used for account creation, authentication, and password recovery.
• Display name — optionally provided during signup, used to personalise your account.

Note Content

• The titles and content of notes you create within the application.
• Timestamps associated with note creation and last modification.
• Your favorite and trash status markers for each note.

Saved Images

• Images you upload to your personal Save Image gallery.
• The public URL returned by our image host (ImgBB) for each uploaded image.
• Metadata such as upload date, image dimensions, and a deletion link.

Technical Information

• Basic authentication session tokens handled by Firebase Authentication.
• Anonymous usage statistics via GoatCounter (page visits only, no personal data).

How We Use Information

The information we collect is used strictly to:

• Create and manage your account.
• Authenticate you securely when you sign in.
• Store, sync, and restore your notes across your devices.
• Upload, store, display, and let you delete your images.
• Enable features such as favorites, trash, image download, and search.
• Send password reset emails when you request them.
• Respond to customer support requests you initiate.

We do not use your data for automated decision-making, marketing, or any form of behavioural analysis.

Storage & Security

Your notes and image references are stored securely using Google Firebase Realtime Database. Data is transmitted over HTTPS and protected by Firebase Authentication.

Each user's notes and images are stored in isolated locations keyed to their unique user ID. Access is restricted by Firebase Security Rules so that no other user can read or modify your data.

Image Hosting

Uploaded image files themselves are hosted on ImgBB, a third-party image hosting service. When you upload an image:

• The file is transmitted directly from your browser to ImgBB over HTTPS.
• ImgBB returns a public URL, which we save in your Firebase account.
• Your image becomes viewable by anyone with the URL, but the URL is not shared or published anywhere.

Encryption in Transit

All communication between your browser and Firebase servers is encrypted using industry-standard TLS. Image uploads to ImgBB are also sent over HTTPS.

Data Retention

Your notes and image records are retained as long as your account is active. When you delete a note or image, it is removed from your account immediately. When you delete your account, all associated notes, image records, and profile information are permanently removed from our database.

Data Sharing

We do not share, sell, rent, or trade your personal information, note content, or image gallery with any third party, except in the following limited circumstances:

• Service providers: Google Firebase provides authentication and database infrastructure. ImgBB hosts your uploaded image files. Their use of data is governed by their respective privacy policies.
• Legal requirements: If required by law, we may disclose information in response to valid legal requests.

No advertising networks, analytics companies, or data brokers have access to your notes or images.

Your Rights

You have full control over your data at all times. You can:

• Access: View all your notes and saved images at any time from within the app.
• Edit: Modify or update any note whenever you wish.
• Download: Save any image from your gallery directly to your device using the download button on each image card.
• Delete: Move notes to trash, permanently delete individual notes, delete individual images, or delete your entire account and all data.
• Export: Copy note content directly from the editor.
• Portability: Your notes are stored as plain text and can be copied anywhere.

Deleting your account immediately and permanently removes all your notes, images, and personal information from our systems.

Cookies & Local Storage

Notes uses browser storage only for essential functionality:

• Authentication session: Firebase uses local storage to keep you signed in between visits.
• UI preferences: Optional sidebar state may be remembered locally.

We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking technologies. Your note content and image records are never stored in browser local storage as a source of truth — they live in Firebase.

Children's Privacy

Notes is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be communicated through the application.

Your continued use of Notes after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
